FDA Increases Oversight of Papaya Imports Following Recall

In response to the recent recall of Mexican papayas by Agromod Produce, Inc., the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stepped up its surveillance and sampling of papayas coming into the United States. This should put all produce importers on notice of increased regulator concern regarding the safety of their products.

CPSC Votes Unanimously to Enforce Phthalates Limits

The CPSC recently voted to enforce third-party testing requirements for phthalates. This decision means that you must be prepared to prove that your products meet federal standards, or risk facing a recall. Several manufacturers have already decided to err on the side of caution and voluntarily remove all phthalates from their products. But those that have not taken this step should be aware that the agency will now be keeping keep a closer eye not only on the products they manufacture and sell, but also on testing results when deciding whether to ask for a recall.
