We are pleased to announce that we have selected the recipients for two full scholarships to the Certificate in Product Safety Management program at Saint Louis University’s Center for Supply Chain Management Studies. The entire ExpertRECALL team would like to congratulate Gina Beredo, Director of Product Compliance at American Greetings Corporation, and Mary Swartz, Regulatory Compliance Manager at Michaels Stores, Inc. for being selected for this honor.
Ms. Beredo will return to her alma mater to attend the certificate program. Coming from a legal background, Ms. Beredo first accepted product safety responsibilities after presenting a proposal to American Greetings Corporation to become the company’s first Director of Product Safety. In that role, she is responsible for overseeing product safety issues for all products in United States, as well as for subsidiaries in United Kingdom and Australia. Ms. Beredo is also involved with maintaining relationships with the company’s key licensors. With such extensive responsibilities, Ms. Beredo is excited about getting additional specialized training.
Ever since accepting a job in regulatory compliance, Mary Swartz has been hooked on the field. As Michaels Regulatory Compliance Manager, Ms. Swartz regularly corresponds about product safety and compliance issues with regulatory officials from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). She also works with Canadian regulatory officials on similar issues north of the border. Ms. Swartz is eager to learn new strategies and ways to ensure product safety for companies and families in the United States and Canada.
The six month Saint Louis University certificate program includes four on-campus sessions and ten distance learning modules. Topics range from risk assessment to product recall management and implementation. The program starts June 14, 2010 at the Saint Louis University campus and ends December 2, 2010.
